2014 Presidents Letter

Dear Friends of Portsmouth Pro Musica,

It is an honor to address you as we embark on our historic 30th season! We have enjoyed the privilege of performing for the seacoast community since our inception as Portsmouth Women’s Chorus in 1985 and through our evolution into the current mixed voice chorus now known as PPM. Looking back, we are grateful to all of our friends who have supported us over the years. Looking forward, we hope to reconnect with all of you as we perform two amazing concert programs in our 30th season:

  • A 30th Birthday Christmas: Bach, Cantata #140; Vivaldi, Magnificat, and carols of the season with string orchestra, members of the Sandpipers Children’s Chorus, and a cappella selections by the Overtones.
  • 30th Anniversary Concert: Sacred Music, Spirituals, Folksongs, Hymns, and American works, both classic and contemporary. PPM singers will perform portions of this repertoire next summer in beautiful cathedrals in Budapest, Prague, and Bratislava.

Thanks to generous community support, PPM thrived in 2013-14. Here are a few highlights:

  • With a generous grant from the Portsmouth Rotary, PPM provided 200 free tickets to men and women in our armed services to attend our performance of Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man: A Mass For Peace. Ticket sales from this concert, introduced by Senator Jeanne Shaheen last January, will help fund our 2015 international tour next summer.
  • With contributions to the PPM Orchestra Sustainer’s Fund, PPM performed Mendelssohn’s masterpiece, Elijah, last spring with an unprecedented 18-piece orchestra.
  • With contributions from singers and Measured Progress, the PPM Scholarship Fund awarded scholarships to three seniors from three seacoast high schools to support their music education.
  • With our partners at the Gundalow Corporation, we hosted the 2nd annual Gundalow Sunset Sail with a performance by the Overtones and raised $2,000 for science field trips & PPM.

We want to continue to offer our music and support to the seacoast community and beyond, and ask that you help us achieve that goal by contributing to our annual campaign; we offer a variety of choices for individual or business support to do so. We include complimentary concert tickets for individual or business donor levels of $150 or more. Please see the enclosed form to learn how you can support PPM this year. Keep in touch with us by visiting portsmouthpromusica.org or our Facebook page. Both sites offer info on upcoming events including our 2015 midwinter auction. These social events raise funds for the chorus, support local seacoast businesses, and allow us to get to know you better. Nothing we do would be possible without help from our friends and sponsors. We look forward to seeing you at our concerts and events this season!

Thank you for joining us!
